Fall Arranging Workshopwith Libbey Oliver and Nancy Ross Hugo |
$450 |
Zinnias, asters, goldenrod, and other fall blooming annuals and perennials should be at their peak during this early fall arranging workshop. Enjoy them with us as you learn from instructors Libbey Oliver and Nancy Ross Hugo. Libbey is the former head of floral services at Colonial and an expert in 18th-century floral design, but she's also a veteran "flower camper" who loves roadside wildflowers and is as adept at "country casual" and modern design as she is at "period" arrangements. During this weekend workshop, Libbey will lead campers in activities that help them combine fall flowers, fruits and berries in new and interesting ways. As author of Cut Flowers are Almost Forever, Libbey will also share tips on how to condition fall flowers and greens to make them last longer. Director Nancy Ross Hugo will share some new Asian techniques she picked up this winter and share tips about the best fall flowers and greens to grow for cutting. Both beginners and experts will enjoy this workshop. Tuition includes five meals (lunch Saturday through brunch Sunday), two nights' lodging, instruction, and materials. Chef: Kate Binns

Nature Journaling (with a Twist)with Rhonda Roebuck |
$350 |
Learn to observe and record natural phenomena in ways that make the recording as much fun as the observing. Artist Rhonda Roebuck teaches techniques that include transferring old graphics and "cut out" literature onto new pages, altering photographs using unusual solvents, and "layering" graphics and text. You can even print your digital images at Flower Camp and add them to your journal. The process is great fun and the products are amazing, because Rhonda makes you keep "layering" until you have a result you like (and that renders the essence of what you've seen and experienced outdoors). Just having a chance to look carefully at the pages Rhonda has created in decades of nature journaling is a reason to attend this workshop! Tuition includes five meals (dinner Friday through through brunch Sunday), two nights' lodging, instruction, and most materials. Chef: Rosanne Shalf |
Fri., Nov. 7 - Sun., Nov. 9 |
Holiday Arrangingwith Mary Claire Coster |
$450 |
We'll be adding fresh flowers, fruit, and other frills to an exciting array of evergreens and "woody matter" during this floral design workshop. The flowers in your arrangements may not last until Thanksgiving, but many of your evergreens and all your ideas will. We'll be experimenting with centerpieces, creating mantelpiece arrangements, and playing with old wood in an activity called "stump stuffing." The latter, a technique we learned from Tennesse cut flower grower Linda Doan, is great fun and will give you a new appreciation of all things worn and woody! Instructor Mary Claire Coster, known for her lavish wedding arrangements, will also share new ways to make the most of boxwood and other traditional evergreens. Tuition includes five meals (dinner Friday through brunch Sunday), two nights' accommodations, instruction, and most materials.Chef: Kate Binns |
